BARBADIAN JUDOKAS captured two medals at this year’s CARIFTA Judo Championships.

Ria Greene and Anaiah Clarke of the Barbados Judo Association, both won bronze medals in the Under-15 and Under-21 categories, respectively at the Sir Kendal G.L. Issacs Gymnasium, Nassau, The Bahamas.

Greene was joint third with Madelyn Macnack of Aruba. They both finished behind the Bahamian duo of Asia Bullard and second placed Trenice Cumberbatch.

Clarke won her bronze medal along with Mya Beneby of The Bahamas. Second place was awarded to Emmazira Kelly of Aruba, while Taryn Butler of The Bahamas copped the gold medal.

Speaking to NATION ONLINE at the end of the event earlier today, national judo coach Ian Weithers said his two-member team fought with determination.

“The girls both fought as expected. They showed resilience and a maturity not sometimes seen in junior athletes. In short, I’m absolutely proud of them,” he said.

This is the first year judo was included in the CARIFTA Games, with athletes participating from Aruba, Trinidad and Tobago, Curacao, Guyana, Suriname, Barbados, Martinique and The Bahamas. (RA)
