JAVELIN thrower Janeil Craigg set a new national record at the high-profile Grenada Invitational International Classic at the Karani James Stadium on Saturday.

Craigg won the men’s javelin with a throw of 78.71 metres on his third attempt to surpass his own Barbados record of 75.62 metres established at the NACAC Under-23 Championships in El Salvador last July.

The final throw from the former Coleridge Parry schoolboy went a distance of 75.89 metres, which was also over his previous record.

Cyrus Hostetler of the United States had to settle for second with a distance of 75.25 while Albert Reynolds threw 75.14 metres for third place. (EZS)
