TEACHERS ARE FILTERING into the hall of Harrison College as they meet to craft a response to the Ministry of Education’s threat to dock their pay for participating in the recent March for Respect.
Minister of Education Ronald Jones has declared “no work, no pay” as his ministry charged that the march was tantamount to a withdrawal of labour. However, the union has said it was not a strike.
General secretary of the Barbados Secondary Teachers Union Andrew Brathwaite said the hope was to have a better way forward for teachers at the end of the meeting “because we are hopeful that any decision made today will help us to go forward”.
President Mary Redman has just begun her president’s address and she has said the level of disrespect to teachers is unfathomable. (HLE)
