BARBADOS’ TOP RANKED surfer Chelsea Tuach showed the international girls just how to surf Drill Hall as she powered her way into Day Four of competition in the Barbados Surf Pro QS 3000 yesterday.
Her namesake Chelsea Roett is also carrying the Barbadian flag as she too advanced to today’s Round of 16. Roett, who was the first Barbadian girl in the water in Heat One, finished in second place with wave scores of 5.33 and 5.83.
Tuach, surfing in the final heat of the day, pulled off two great waves despite a nervous start to the heat, which saw Hawaiian surfer Bailey Nagy drawing first blood with a 5.67 first wave.
Tuach’s first wave scored a 4.90 which placed her in second position. But as the other girls – Nagy, Brianna Cope (Hawaii) and Cassidy McClain (USA) went left and right on different sets, Tuach, for whom Drill Hall is her home breaks, showed her local knowledge by waiting patiently for that wave.
