Track and field Coaches across the country are breathing sighs of relief after the CARIFTA Congress agreed to revert to the original Under-17 and Under-20 age groups for the CARIFTA Games.
These divisions were institutions at the Games for years before a change four years ago saw the region’s athletes competing in a new Under-18 category.
Twenty-two delegations agreed to the reversion proposed by Barbados during the Congress at the Hilton Hotel in Willemstad, Curacao on Monday. There were two abstentions.
The Athletics Association of Barbados, represented by president Catherine Jordan and vice-president Noel “Barney” Lynch, proposed that the age competition for CARIFTA revert to the Under-17 and Under-20 age categories to allow 14, 15 and 16-year-olds to compete against each other, while 17, 18 and 19-year-olds would do the same.
