TOO MANY Barbadians have to start from scratch when their homes are destroyed by fire.
Minister of Industry, International Business, Commerce and Small Business Development Donville Inniss said it was a relatively simple matter to insure a home but too many people were shirking that very important step.
“I am concerned not enough Barbadians take insurance seriously and this is a matter we must have a national conversation about. It pains me when I see the number of fundraising activities for individuals to get back on their feet as a result of a house fire . . . . Could you not have budgeted $30 or $40 a month to help pay towards house insurance?” he said.
Inniss, speaking yesterday during the 39th General Insurance Association of Barbados’ (GIAB) annual general meeting said the payments for house insurance were not significant. He urged national dialogue on the matter. (CA)
