THE ATHERLEY family is trying to cope with the loss of a loved one whose body was discovered on the beach off the Ermy Bourne Highway, St Andrew, on Saturday.

Edwin Atherley, who was 69, went missing during the Barbados Labour Party’s annual Heroes Day excursion on Friday. His body was spotted by four boys after it washed up on the beach the next day.

Yesterday, family members recounted stories of the former National Petroleum Corporation worker at their Stanford Road, Lodge Road, Christ Church home.

“He was a helpful man; anything you needed help with you could always count on him,” stepson Henderson Bourne told the DAILY NATION. “He would help around the house and he liked to fish really badly; you could say he loved the sea.” (SB)
