Bajans ‘not taking advice’ in mosquito fight

DESPITE ALL THE WARNINGS, some Barbadians are not heeding the advice of environmental health officers about putting an end to mosquito breeding at their homes.

Senior Environmental Health Officer Kerrie Ann King at the Sir Winston Scott Polyclinic, told the DAILY NATION yesterday that based on field work, some people were still breeding the dangerous insect in their backyards.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Jemmotts Lane, St Michael polyclinic’s presentation for Mosquito Awareness Week, she said: “At this stage I believe people should know about what causes mosquitoes to breed. They should know that stagnant water on their premises causes them to breed [but] we are still seeing people in some communities breeding them.” (SB)
