GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO CUT expenditure but it should do so without burdening Barbadians with higher taxes.
The Freundel Stuart administration must also find a way to reduce the millions of dollars it has to spend on debt interest.
That advice came from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Barbados (ICAB) through executive director Reginald Farley ahead of the May 30 Budget to be delivered by Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler.
Farley, who was a member of the last Barbados Labour Party Cabinet, said ICAB agreed with the Central Bank’s Acting Governor Cleviston Haynes that reducing the fiscal deficit and boosting the foreign reserves were key objectives the authorities had to achieve urgently. (SC)
