INCREASED NATURAL GAS RATES could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back for many struggling Barbadians.

That’s the warning from Opposition Senator Wilfred Abrahams, who said this could be the consequence of the National Petroleum Corporation Amendment Bill 2017 debated in the Senate yesterday.

He also questioned the power that would be given to the minister as the “sole determining authority” for the cost of natural gas service, with the ability to control and raise rates “at will”. (GC)
