THE BAJAN GEMS’ historic netball win over Jamaica in Kingston was just the start of a greater journey for local netball.

That goal was outlined by the triumphant Barbados unit that returned to warm greetings from friends, family and both junior and senior players at the Grantley Adams International Airport on Tuesday night.

The almost two-hour flight delay did not damper the spirits of the team or their greeters as hugs and kisses were shared out to the group which ended three decades of defeats against Jamaica.

Coach Sandra Bruce-Small, who as a player and coach would have suffered at the hands of the world’s fourth- ranked Jamaicans could not hide her joy at the tied Test series which ended in a 43-41 win in the third match for the Gems. (KB)
