MERLYNE MOORE’S worst nightmare became a reality a month ago when she received a call from her son Jeshua Ferdinand to inform her that he was partially paralysed.

Describing the partial paralysis as sudden, Merlyne said her only child played two cricket practice matches in England before falling ill the following week, and was unable to move his feet, and had limited movement in one hand.

“He called me the Wednesday and told me he felt like he was coming down with the flu. Of course I told him to take some panadol . . . . The Friday morning he was going for a massage, but when he woke up he could not move. He called Rob, his manager, who took him to the doctor. The doctor did not know what it was, and rushed him straight to the hospital,” she explained to WEEKENDSPORT from her Wotton, Christ Church home.

The former Lodge School student was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome, an auto-immune disorder that attacks the nervous system. (RA)
