Sweet win for D’Girlz Dem Sugar

A THRILLING VICTORY by a nose by D’Girlz Dem Sugar over a gallant Butterfly in the 27th edition of the Harmony General Insurance Breeders’ Stakes And Trophy sealed a remarkable treble for trainer Robert “Papa” Peirce yesterday at the Garrison Savannah.

Owned by Steve and Allan Madoo, D’Girlz Dem Sugar rushed to the lead entering the home stretch, overtaking Legion, who attempted to pull off a heist.

Relishing the firm track, the gelding under jockey Jalon Samuel had a tremendous battle down the stretch with a surging Butterfly with Antonio Bishop up.

D’Girlz Dem Sugar sat mid-pack as Legion encountered no competition for the first mile. When D’Girlz Dem Sugar and Butterfly flashed past the post together, a confident Samuel punched his fist in the air in victory. (LY)
