THE BARBADOS AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY  (BAS) is taking further steps to improve the agricultural sector and to educate farmers.

Chief executive officer James Paul said this morning that they have partnered with a Holland-based company, which is providing $200 000 to train farmers on the new technologies available and how to implement them, so that they can improve the consistency of their crops and increase production.

In addition to targeting youths, and women in particular, Paul said they have identified 35 farms to benefit from the training which starts next month and runs through December.

The six crops they will be working on developing are onions, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, yams and cassava. (YB)
