MOSQUITO INFESTATION and related diseases may be down for the year, but a senior environmental officer is warning both could spike as soon as the rains return.
There have been 16 suspected cases of Zika up to April 1, three of which have been confirmed.
Since the outbreak in 2015, there have been 705 suspected cases of Zika, with the majority of them being recorded in 2016. Of them, 150 have been confirmed with 144 occurring last year.
Principal Environmental Health Officer at the St Philip Polyclinic, Maurice Gaskin, told the DAILY NATION there had been a significant decrease in mosquito infestation throughout the island but there were still some areas of concern. (HLE)
