THE BARBADOS CULINARY Team is seeing gold today.
The team to the Taste Of The Caribbean annual culinary competition in Miami won six gold and one silver and also took the coveted prizes of Caribbean Team of the Year and Caribbean Bartender of the Year.
Chef Damian Leach also won Best Seafood Overall.
Chef Henderson Butcher, who is team manager, said they put all they had practiced in Barbados on the plates in Miami where they dethroned Trinidad and Tobago.

“The guys are elated. We celebrated late last night. And now are packing to come back home tonight.
“What was also great, was Nicholas Ifill in his last year as Junior Chef won gold, and Javon Cummins, a cuisine chef, competed as pastry chef and won gold.”

“I had won gold for Best Rum Drink and they said ‘come back Barbados, you won the top prize’. My teammates were shouting and clapping for me. I feel so blessed. It is only fitting. I thank Jamaal Bowen, my trainer, who was over my shoulder the whole time in practice.”
The team won gold in Best Rum Drink, Best Seafood and Best Seafood Overall, Junior Chef of the Year, Pastry Chef of the Year, Chef of the Year.
The silver was in Best Individual Beef. (NS)
