Autistic Shad beats the odds

IT TOOK A team effort for Shad Bovell to reap success in this year’s Barbados Secondary Schools Entrance Examination.

Thanks to the efforts of his teachers and parents, the 12-year-old Irving Wilson School student will be a student of the Alleyne School next term.

However, there is no question who the star of the show is as Shad, who was diagnosed with autism, wowed his teachers with his intelligence and continues to make his parents proud.

Class teacher Shantel Lynch, who specialises in working with autistic children, said Shad was so intelligent, he sometimes made her feel inadequate. (CA)
