ALMOST 150 PRIMARY school teachers left the Erdiston Teachers Training College (ETTC) with huge smiles on their faces yesterday afternoon after receiving their letters of appointment.

The initially nervous 141 teachers were summoned to attend a 2:30 p.m. meeting in the ETTC’s conference room with Minister of Education Ronald Jones; Chief Education Officer Karen Best; Permanent Secretary June Chandler; Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Education Harry Husbands, and several other senior officials.

However, their anxiety soon turned to happiness after they were told the reason for the meeting.

Best said that since December of last year, 262 teaching posts had become vacant. She said another batch of teachers would also be receiving their letters of appointment “in the coming weeks”. (RB)
