THE BARBADOS WATER Authority (BWA) is hoping to restore water to hundreds of householders and businesses in St Michael and Christ Church within the hour.
A ruptured main in Pine Road, St Michael today gushed thousands of gallons of water and left residents without running water for more than 24 hours.
Moments ago, Joy Ann Haigh, the communications and rapid response manager, said that if all goes according to plan the water should be restored in another hour.
Along with households, medical facilities, pharmacies, schools and other agencies were affected by a lack of running water and had to rely on the water tanks from the BWA.
At the Graydon Sealy Secondary School a tank was posted so that students could continue CXC exams while the Geriatric Hospital and Purity Bakeries were not in need of any supply.
Haigh said that the BWA worked around the clock as the morning crew relieved the night team in order to fix the problem. She explained that after the very old main was repaired during the wee hours a test revealed leaks at the joints which then had to be mended. (AC)
