SHONICA WHARTON scored a record-equalling 56 goals to lead UWI Signia Blackbirds A closer to a perfect season and a repeat double crown when Division 1 netball continued on Saturday night at the Netball Stadium.

Wharton, who heads off to Northern Ireland next week with the barbados senior team, had also scored 56 goals against Newbury Stars last season.

She repeated the feat against Spooners Hill Firebirds who were beaten 64-37. Wharton missed just six shots while her support Sheniqua Thomas scored eight from 11 attempts at goal attack.

Lester Vaughan schoolgirl Diamond Hollingsworth was given the tough job of marking shooter Wharton. Hollingsworth was overpowered by the skills and experience of her opponent and not even the more experienced Shondelle Sandiford was able to stop Wharton or Thomas. (KB)
