‘Threat’ to medical standards

OFFSHORE MEDICAL SCHOOLS and those who practise alternative medicine have been identified as a threat to the standards and mission of doctors trained by the University of the West Indies (UWI).

Stalwart of the medical community, Professor Sir Henry Fraser (below), made the assertions Sunday, bringing renewed attention to the issue as he congratulated and delivered a pep talk to the 48-member graduating class of the university’s Faculty of Medical Sciences. professorfraser

He was the featured speaker at the annual Oath Taking Ceremony at Mahogany Ridge, St James.

In delivering biting criticism of offshore medical schools, Sir Henry said they were a “constant threat” despite the standards that had been set by the UWI, and the quality of training it delivered that was tailored to the needs of Caribbean people. (WILLCOMM)
