MANAGEMENT AND STAFF of Mount Gay Distilleries continued work on the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility Campaign by sprucing up and beautifying the Mount Gay Village in St Lucy.
In February on the 314th anniversary of the brand, the company launched its drive to end the use of styrofoam products with a ban on containers for food and beverages on its premises.
Managing director, Raphael Grisoni, said the recent activity in St Lucy was an extension of the social and environmental work the company has done over the years.
“Mount Gay is the place we called home for over 300 years and will continue to be our home for years to come. So in the spirit of sustainability and preservation we must give forward to our community,” he said.
“Last year, we hosted a similar High Performance Team (HPT) activity to encourage our management and staff to get more involved in the environmental fight, which saw them working on projects including trash disposal, creating a greenhouse and restoring an orchard.”
“This year, under the theme ‘Giving Forward’, over 140 of our team members got together and transformed the Mount Gay Village. We were split up into four groups. Team one – Pointing the Way – planted palm trees along the entrance of the road to the village, as historically in Barbados places of importance were identified by an alley of palms. Team two – Sowing the Future – distributed seedlings and keepsake cards to all the homes in the village, for residents to start and, or enhance their own gardens. They also compiled a map of the village with the family names of each household.
“Team three – Expressing our Commitment – transformed the well-known community Cane Hole Bar with Mount Gay colours and signage and erected a welcome sign at the entrance of the village; while Team four – Continuing the Journey – gave the village bus shelter a facelift with a paint job, signage and landscaping.
Grisoni added: “At Mount Gay, we are invested in our staff, our community, the environment and the country on a whole, and we will continue to find and create ways to make contributions to enhance the island.” (PR)
