WHILE ONE GROUP of airline pilots battle with their employer, a new airline is about to take to the skies in the region.

Trans Island Airways 2000, owned by Barbados based businessman Bruce Kaufman, will be officially launched today in St Lucia.

Kaufman will join St Lucia Prime Minister Allen Chastanet to announce the airline’s start up at a function at Bay Gardens Hotel.

Trans Island Airways was formerly operated by Barbadian businessmen Bernie Weatherhead who sold the assets to Kauffman.

A three-day strike by LIAT pilots ended last Friday when they reached an agreement with LIAT regarding pay. (GE)
