Haynes advances to semis

Date:

LAST YEAR’S LOSING finalist Abigail Haynes maintained hopes of redemption by moving into the semi-finals of the 2017 Touch of Class Women’s Road Tennis Tournament when the quarter-finals were staged at the Deighton “Pa” Roach Tennis Facility, Bush Hall, on Tuesday night.

Displaying focus and shot control, Haynes overcame a tough effort from the tall Estherphyne Holder 21-18, 21-12.

Both players seemed evenly matched with the first game being locked up to 14. Haynes broke away 18-14 but struggled to deliver the finishing punch as Holder showed her form in challenging right to the line.

After Haynes edged home in that first game, Holder seemed taxed as she committed numerous attacking errors to face the possibility of a sow at 6-15. However, she escaped that danger before losing in straight games to allow Haynes to face the smoking hot Rachel Smith in last night’s semis. (KB)
