15 years for killing friend

TONEAL OMAR WALROND was sentenced to 15 years in prison yesterday for killing his 60-year-old friend almost six years ago.

Walrond, 32, of French Village, St Peter, was charged with the murder of Evans Burnham between July 1 and 8, 2011.

He pleaded not guilty to murder, but guilty to manslaughter before Justice Michelle Weekes. The sentence was handed down yesterday in the No. 2 Supreme Court.

His time on remand, which was five years and 334 days, was taken into consideration and he will now spend nine years and 21 days in jail. (TKS)
