Cave Hill’s Sargassum strategy

TIDES OF SARGASSUM seaweed are again invading the shores of Barbados and other Caribbean islands, but this time principal of the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus Professor Eudine Barriteau says there is no need for despair.

That is because the campus has supplied every Caribbean government with information on how to manage the phenomenon.

Barriteau said the report now in the hands of all governments was compiled by the campus following the invasion of the pesky weed two years ago, when Sargassum threatened fisheries and tourism.

Speaking at the signing of a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between the Cave Hill Campus and the Barbados Chamber of Commerce Industry yesterday, Barriteau said … (GC)
