Old BWA a home for vagrants

In response to numerous calls and complaints, The WEEKEND NATION continues this series looking at abandoned Government buildings that are eyesores and health hazards.

UNLIKE some other publicly owned properties, the former Barbados Water Authority (BWA) headquarters in The Pine, St Michael, has not been empty for long.

In 2015 the statutory body relocated to a modern building a short distance away. However, this left its expansive former home empty, which is how it remains today, except apparently for vagrants.

“The last wanted man get hold in there and right now there’s another man that lives in there. I see him hanging out clothes so I assume in there got water and at night I see lights on too. I feel he must squeeze through a hole in the gate,” said an anonymous St Barnabas resident, whose home overlooks the site. (CA)
