TOP BARBADIAN chess player Orlando Husbands was one of three players at the top of the table after the fourth round in the Central American and Caribbean Under-20 Championships yesterday.

Husbands, a three-time CARIFTA Under-20 gold medallist, tallied three-and-a-half out of a maximum four points just before the halfway stage of the championships at the Divi Southwinds Hotel.

The FIDE master defeated Guatemala’s Fabian Lopez in the opening round on Thursday before getting the better of Trinidad and Tobago’s Alan-Safar Ramatour in the second round on Friday morning.

Husbands was forced to settle for a draw in his third-round encounter against Nicaragua’s Mauro Ampie on Friday evening before returning to winning ways with a victory against fellow local boy Bryan Prescod yesterday morning. (HG)
