VERSATILE teenage sportsman Paul Doughty is among five newcomers selected in the Barbados senior team for the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Championship starting in Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday.

Setter Doughty, also a national junior hockey and football goalkeeper, is joined by fellow debutants Ahkeem Mayers, Ashan Jordan, libero Stephen Packer and ex-CARIFTA Games high jumper Adam Niles in the 12-man team for the championship, which ends on July 9.

Southpaw Shawn Simpson, who is Barbados’ No. 1 squash player, takes over the captaincy from first-choice setter Alain London.

Noticeable absentees are the experienced Fabian Cox, former junior captain Jabarry Goodridge, who has been sidelined with a leg injury, and Akeem Payne. (EZS)
