THE CHAMPS seem headed for another of those rivalry series.

Orange 3 Pinelands are one step closer to another finals matchup with Lumber Company Lakers after the two teams won contrasting series openers in Sunday’s Co-operators General Insurance Basketball Premier League playoffs at the Barbados Community College.

Lakers squandered all but three of a 22-point fourth-quarter lead before holding on for a 77-73 win over Urban Vybz St John’s Sonics while Pinelands closed out Station Hill Cavaliers with a decisive 14-5 run in their 96-90 victory.

The results moved the two powerhouses just a win away from their third finals matchup in five years after they split successive title series in 2013 and 2014.
