Full effect of levy by October

 

BY OCTOBER consumers will feel “the full effects” of price increases associated with Government’s controversial austerity measures.

If that was not bad enough, said business leader Eddy Abed, the Christmas season will be “hugely affected”.

The Barbados Chamber of Commerce Industry (BCCI) president warned that a number of companies, already operating on little to no profit margins were now “very concerned that they cannot make it to Christmas”.

Speaking about what he termed the “very regressive” hike in the increased National Social Responsibility Levy effective July 1, Abed said the BCCI advised its members to let job losses be “the very last resort” in the circumstances. (SC)
