A FORMER HEAD of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association (BHTA) does not view the international online hospitality service Airbnb as a rival.
However, he wants local properties registered on the global site to pay their fair share of taxes and maintain high standards.
Sunil Chatrani said that unless there was systematic monitoring of Airbnb-registered accommodation here, the reputation of Barbados’ tourism product and the country’s established hotels could be compromised.
In an interview with the DAILY NATION, the hotelier said Airbnb had become a major player in the accommodation sector of most countries and Barbados was no different. (GE)
