THE TEN-MEMBER Barbados Boxing Association team swung their way to a victory, securing seven gold medals, one silver and two bronze at this year’s ninth Creole Boxing Tournament at the Beausejour Indoor facility in St Lucia.

The five-day tournament which ended on Saturday night saw boxers competing in bouts from Antigua, Grenada, Barbados, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Dominica, St Vincent, St Maarten, French Guiana and host country St Lucia.

Team manager and coach Laurence Hunte said he was proud of this team.

“This year we performed really well. We got a best [women’s] boxer from our team captain and lone female Kimberly Gittens, and every single boxer performed well even when they lost their bouts based on split decisions. We like the improvement of the boxers,” Hunte said on the team’s return at the Grantley Adams International Airport on Sunday. (RA)
