SWIM CLASSES UNDER the Operation Save Our Selves (SOS) programme, hosted by the National Conservation Commission, and originally slated to begin tomorrow, Wednesday, July 19, have been postponed due to the inclement weather.
The first class of the six-week programme will now take place on Wednesday, July 26, at Brownes Beach, Bay Street, St Michael. Participants are asked to meet at 9 a.m. for an official opening ceremony. However, classes will run from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. each week.
The SOS programme was launched in 2012, and includes discussions on drowning prevention; the do’s and don’ts of water safety; understanding currents; understanding and interpreting flags; beach signage; and the lulls of the wind and waves.
It is also designed to acquaint participants with the experience of ocean swimming and its hazards, while exposing them to an environment that will teach them about the need to respect the marine environment through responsible behaviour. (BGIS)
