MINISTER OF TRANSPORT Michael Lashley vigorously defended the work of a consultant attached to the Transport Board being paid over $20 000 a month.

Incensed by a report in the SUNDAY SUN about the performance of the Trinidadian consultant, Lashley said that a document submitted by Price Waterhouse Coopers found that initiatives of the consultant had saved the Transport Board millions of dollars.

Speaking at St Giles Primary School, Ivy, St Michael, for the Democratic Labour Party FACTS conference on Sunday, Lashley said that all the engines imported were working and disputed that parts were being stored at Mangrove.

“The Transport Board . . . we were buying transmissions at about $30 000. The consultant, through his initiatives, was able to bring a transmission out of Texas for $6 700 and they’re on the buses and they’re working,” said Lashley. (WILLCOMM)
