THE LODGE SCHOOL’S cricketers were crowned champions in the 31st annual Garfield Sobers International Schools’ Cricket Tournament when they upstaged Christ Church Foundation at Kensington Oval yesterday.

The Milo-sponsored “boys from St John” masterfully defended a total of 165 by dismissing the “Church Hill” lads for 136 to spark exultant celebrations as they ran out winners by 29 runs.

Lodge owed their handy total mainly to Nagid Forde, whose patient knock of 40 off 70 balls anchored a middle-order recovery after slumping to 48 for four in the 13th over, with pacer Cherran Thompson and left-arm spinner Rondre Yearwood grabbing two wickets each.

The stocky left-hander put on 35 with Shemwyn Harris for the fifth wicket and added 57 for the sixth with his captain, Jamali Lynch. (WH)
