Aleph is new Port calypso king

ALEPH is the new Barbados Port Inc. Calypso Monarch.

Security guard Roger Collymore warmed the hearts of the standing room-only audience in Shed 3 and impressed the judges to cop the top prize.

With his song De Rookie, he won a trip to London on board Virgin Atlantic and £1 000 sterling spending money compliments the Barbados Port Inc.

He not only beat the other six contestants, but also won Best Self-Penned Song and Best Crowd Response.

Last year’s winner Jackson Unplugged (Jaque Collis) came second with Ring De Bell. She was looking to do the hat-trick.

The former monarch won a weekend for two at Blue Horizon Hotel and $2 000 compliments the Barbados Port Inc.

In third place was De Disciple (Richmond Reid) with It Fix. He walked away with a weekend for two with breakfast at Divi Southwinds and $1 500 compliments Barbados Port Inc.

No one left empty handed as all the contestants got consolation prizes and there were a number of special prizes awarded. (TTY)
