LIL RICK created history at MQI/98.1 The One Soca Royale, winning the Party Monarch six times since the competition’s inception in 1995. Red Plastic Bag won his second Sweet Soca monarch having won in 2011 with Once Upon A Wine.

Both of the judges’ decisions went down well with the crowd as both were favourites in their competitions. The announcements were received by loud cheers of approval from other competitors as well.

Lil Rick, who won back-to-back titles previously, tied with Edwin Yearwood on five Party Monarch wins. Lil Rick won in 1998, 2002, 2003 and 2007 and 2016. It was his second win at Bushy Park with his other wins at Calypso Bowl on East Coast Road.

“I feel good. The competition was hype and good. I respect everyone in the competition. I didn’t underestimate anyone. I just put on my best game,” said Lil Rick directly after being announced winner. (TY/NS)
