TEAM BARBADOS had a mixed bag of results on the opening day of the Carebaco Junior Championships being held at the National Racquet Centre in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Under-11 category saw Nathan King defeating Kiran Rampersad 21-12, 21-10.
In Under-13 boys’ singles Marcus Jordan lost to Al Hassan Somedjo of Suriname 21-8, 21-4, Joshua Valere lost to James Babwah of Trinidad and Tobago 18-21, 21-13, 21-17 and Harrison Griffith to Travis Sinanan of Trinidad 21-19, 21-17.
In the Under-13 girls’ singles, Eboni Atherley lost to Danyelle Barnes of Trinidad and Tobago 21-17, 21-11 and Shania Forde lost to Danae Mootoosingh of Trinidad and Tobago 21-8, 21-11.
Forde then teamed up with Griffith in mixed doubles to defeat the Trinidad pair of Nicholi Marcano and Danae Mootoosingh 21-18, 21-14.
In another mixed doubles game, Valere and Atherley lost to Seth Mollah and Amara Joachim 21-17, 21-11.
Meanwhile in the Under-15 girls’ division, Fallon Miller defeated Kristy Diljohn 14-21, 21-17, 21-13 and Aria Chandler defeated Kyra James 21-12, 21-16.
Barbados also recorded wins in the Under-17 and Under-19 divisions through Shomari Smith, Emily Thomas, Krystle Clarke, Amanda Haywood, Kodie King, Shae Martin, Gavin Watson and Cheyanna Burnett-Griffith.
