Moore: A lack of urgency

THE TRADE UNIONS were not convinced their concerns have been addressed following meetings with representatives of the Government and they continued to agitate for solutions.

Barbados Workers Union general secretary Toni Moore gave her own timeline on attempts to engage members of the Democratic Labour Party administration.

She got her chance during an address on Issues of Concern this morning during a full meeting of the Social Partnership at Hilton Barbados.

Moore said the number of meetings declined under the present administration. She spoke of a meeting in 2010 chaired by late Prime Minister David Thompson and another in 2013 when Minister of Finance Chris Sinckler presented the Medium Term Growth and Development Strategy as a done deal with no room for discussion.

She said a meeting on June 23 this year did not provide the answers the Union needed, neither did letters dated July 5 and 11. A joint trade union/private sector protest was held on July 11.

Moore said there had been a lack of urgency in response to challenges confronting the country and hoped there would not be a similar response going forward. (SAT)
