Relay team fails to advance

SO MUCH FOR that final. And the national record.

Barbados’ vaunted relay team just didn’t live up to the hype after failing to advance out of yesterday 4×100 metres’ opening heats at the IAAF World Championships in London.

Competing in the first of two heats, the Bajan contingent of Levi Cadogan, Ramon Gittens, Shane Brathwaite and Mario Burke didn’t get out to a good start and never threatened the national record while finishing last in a time of 39.19 seconds.

“It was unfortunate that Mario Burke pulled up as we were looking at like a 38.70 but even that wouldn’t cut it at that level,” said Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) vice-president Noel Lynch. (JM)
