THE ST PETER CANDIDATE for the New Barbados Kingdom Alliance Party wants the gully system that channels water through Speightstown and out to sea widened.

That and a proper “step down system”, said Apostle Lynroy Scantlebury, would ensure the flooding events which happened on Friday, and in 1984 and 2004 would not happen again.

“It’s going to take a really great effort to sit with the right people, the right engineers, the right construction teams, and then we have to make sure we keep our gullies clean.

“The other thing we have to do is widen our gully system and create the right paths, so that on a proper system of maintenance, we know that if we have rainfall at this level again, our system is already in place to make sure this is never the case again in Speightstown.” (HLE)
