Controversy over BCA covers

A BALL HASN’T been bowled yet but there is controversy over the temporary loan of additional covers to the host clubs ahead of today’s Barbados Cricket Association’s (BCA) four Super Cup quarter-final matches.

The point of contention seems to be the timing of the BCA’s decision after the preliminary zonal matches with some contending that traditionally strong Sagicor UWI could benefit from the move.

The 2017 BCA’s rules and playing conditions for the Super Cup state that “pitches shall be covered for all matches in the competition. Covering shall be done: (a) at least forty-eight (48) hours before the scheduled start of play and if necessary until the first ball is bowled; and whenever necessary and possible at any time prior to that, during the preparation of the pitch.

(b) If during the hours of play the match is suspended on account of rain.” (NATION Sports Desk)
