Festival lifts small hotels

BARBADOS’ SMALL HOTEL sector is faring well for CARIFESTA, with some properties reporting accelerated business from the festival.

Amidst complaints of hiccups being experienced with other aspects of the festival, some in the Intimate Hotels of Barbados 47-member group are seeing a positive spin-off, with an overall average occupancy of about 90 per cent.

These are mainly hotels on the South Coast, which is close to most of the venues for CARIFESTA events.

In his final update before the start of the festival, Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley had said that about 2 000 artistes from 27 countries were expected in for the ten-day regional event. (GC)
