DESPITE BARBADOS’ CHALLENGING economic climate, one investor is putting his money and faith into a multimillion-dollar hotel project on the West Coast.

Hotelier Robin Walcott is pumping “around $18 million” in the expansion of his existing 36-unit Beach View condominium hotel at Paynes Bay, St James. He says he is basing his confidence on the performance of Beach View to date.

Construction has begun on 19 additional two- and three-bedroom units on a property adjacent to the hotel. This will bring the total number of condominiums to 55, at what managing director of Property Consulting Services Terry Hanton has described as “the most successful condo hotel in Barbados”.

There are 100 employees in the construction of this second phase, with two swimming pools, a spa and a gym also being added to the existing facilities. (GC)
