Barbados Tridents beat St Lucia Stars by 29 runs

BRIDGETOWN – Barbados Tridents, propelled by an unbeaten century from Dwayne Smith, defeated winless St Lucia Stars by 29 runs in their Caribbean Premier League Twenty20 cricket match at Kensington Oval which ended 40 minutes after midnight here Thursday.

After winning the toss and batting, the Tridents were powered to 195 for four in their 20 overs by Smith, who made a superb 103 not out off 65 balls. Smith struck five fours and eight sixes.

There was a 42-minute break in with the Tridents on 173 for four in 19 overs when one pylon of the floodlights malfunctioned.

In reply, St Lucia Stars were restricted to 166 for four in their 20 overs.

The heavy-set Rahkeem Cornwall, used as an opener, smashed 78 off 44 balls before retiring. He smashed seven fours and six sixes in his knock.
