SMJ Runnings retain crown

SMJ COOL RUNNINGS continued their dominance of the Barbados Commercial League’s Festival of Football when they lifted the trophy for the second consecutive year after a 1-0 win over Chickmont Foods at the Maxwell Sports Club on Sunday night.The decisive strike came from Shamar Stevenson on the stroke of half-time, after an even start to the encounter gave way to a spurt of dominance from SMJ.

Sandy Lane claimed third spot with a 6-5 win on penalties over Crane Resorts, following an exhilarating 2-2 draw.

Paul Archer struck twice for Crane Resorts, while Dwain Jones and Christopher Forde cancelled out Archer’s efforts on Sandy Lane’s behalf.

The defending champions, who had navigated their way to the final with minimum fuss, overcame Crane Resorts 2-1 in the semi-final.

Chickmont Foods had a much trickier task in their semi, eventually overcoming Sandy Lane Hotel 5-4 on penalties after normal time ended in a 0-0 stalemate. (ML)
