A MAJOR SURFING FESTIVAL, where locals and visitors will mingle and enjoy top-class wave-riding and beach culture, is being planned for November at Bathsheba in St Joseph.

Organised by the Barbados Surfing Association (BSA) and backed by the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., the festival will be hosted at the world famous Soup Bowl from November 3 to 5.

Several components, which will make for an exciting weekend, are being planned for the festival. These include the Hyundai Independence Pro-Surfing Competition; a Junior Grom international event for surfers between the ages of ten and 16; a throw-back event  for legends of Barbadian surfing; music in a surfing village; a bikini contest, and a fun-zone for children.

“It is going to be an exciting weekend, bringing back the atmosphere at the Soup Bowl. We are staging it earlier in the month and we expect to get some of the best known international pro surfers who will be moving between events,” said Nicholas Donawa, public relations officer of the BSA. (PR)
