THE Professional Road Tennis Association (PRTA) had promised the fans thunder and lightning from the rackets of Mark “Venom” Griffith and Sheldene Walrond in the Public Workers Cooperative Credit Union Monarchs Of The Court championships.
However, Mother Nature has delivered nothing but wind and rain to severely affect the fixtures with just three matches being completed on the opening night on Sunday. No other night has escaped the wrath of nature.
With some of the fencing blown down and the rain persisting, PRTA president Dale Clarke put the show on pause while indicating that repairs would be carried out and the tournament would recommence tomorrow night.
“We are acquiring a 60 by 40 tent to cover the entire playing area and tents will be used to provide cover for the spectators,” said Clarke. This year’s tournament offers two cars valued at $60 000 each for the top man and woman while several monetary and other prizes will be up for grabs in the mixed doubles and junior categories. (KB)
