It’s all tied up

A FAMILIAR TENNIS SCRIPT. The scores are locked at 1-1 and today’s doubles could virtually decide the top of the table Group 2 Americas Davis Cup tie between host country Barbados and Venezuela at the National Tennis Centre.

Darian King, the toast of local tennis, was pummelling Jordi Munoz 6-1, 1-0 in the second singles match when the Venezuelan retired with a stomach bug after just 36 minutes.

The second match was over at 12:54 p.m., much to the disappointment of the partisan home crowd comprising students from Luther Thorne, Grantley Prescod and St Gabriel’s.

King, after a slow start, was stepping up a gear when the Munoz, who is earmarked to play in the doubles, conceded defeat. (MK)
